Green tea is an active ingredient in many weight loss products. When health benefits of green tea are listed, weight loss is first on the list. Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded: "Consumption of green tea produced thermogenesis and increased energy expenditure and fat oxidation" in humans.
Green tea is one of the active ingredients in the Cortisyn formulation. EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), a key element in the polyphenol antioxidants contained in green tea, benefits weight loss by helping the body to burn fat. They have been widely studied in weight loss recently.
One study in Switzerland found drinking the equivalent of 2-3 cups of green tea daily caused the participants to burn 80 extra calories each day, without increasing their heart rates and factoring out the tea's caffeine content. This is due to the EGCG polyphenol content in green tea.
Polyphenols are a group of naturally occurring plant chemicals with very high antioxidant potential. Antioxidants are substances that protect the body from free radicals, which are special molecules and fragments of molecules that can damage your body from a cellular level. Polyphenols also reduce brain lipid peroxidation free radical activity in the brain, further strengthening the benefits of enhanced mental focus from consuming green tea.
Typical research has dosage recommendations at 125-500 mg/day (this should be equivalent to 4-10 cups of brewed green tea.) Two Cortisyn contains over 200 mg per of Green Tea Extract 50% which provides more than the optimum dose for its typical weight loss properties.
