Shawn Talbott, Ph.D., is trained in
sports medicine, health management,
exercise physiology and nutritional
biochemistry. He is the recipient of a
dozen competitive research awards and
has published over 100 articles on
nutrition, health and fitness. Dr.
Talbott is especially well-known as the
author of The Cortisol Connection
and as the creator of the highly
successful weight-loss formula
Cortislim. In addition, Dr. Talbott has
consulted for numerous athletic teams
and organizations, including the Utah
Jazz and the U.S. Track and Field
Association. In his spare time, Dr.
Talbott enjoys competing in full Ironman
triathlons, which consist of a 2.4-mile
swim, 112-mile bike ride, and a full
26.2-mile marathon. He and his family
live near Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dr. Shawn Talbott received his
Master's degree in Exercise Science from
the University of Massachusetts and his
Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry from
Rutgers University where his research
focused on sports nutrition, bone &
cartilage metabolism, and weight loss
issues. Dr. Talbott has also undertaken
post-graduate studies in
Entrepreneurship at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology's Sloan School
of Business as part of MIT's curriculum
with the Young Entrepreneur's
Organization (YEO) and the highly
selective, 3-year Birthing of Giants
(BOG) program..
Dr. Talbott is the recipient of a dozen
competitive research awards and has
published over 100 articles on
nutrition, health and fitness. He has
served as a nutrition consultant for the
Utah Jazz (NBA basketball), the United
States Ski and Snowboard Association,
the United States Track and Field
Association and numerous elite-level
athletes in a variety of sports. As an
athlete himself, Shawn has competed at
the national and international level in
rowing and triathlon – and has completed
over 50 triathlons, including 8 at the
Ironman distance.
Dr. Talbott has reviewed articles and
served on the Editorial Boards for
several scientific journals including
The American Journal of Preventive
Medicine, The International Journal of
Sports Nutrition, Current Topics in
Nutraceutical Research, and The Journal
of Nutraceuticals, Functional and
Medical Foods.
Most recently, Dr. Talbott directed
operations of the University of Utah
Nutrition Clinic and taught for five
years as an Associate Clinical Professor
in the Department of Nutrition at the
University of Utah (receiving the
Outstanding Instructor Award in 2004).
At the University of Utah, Dr. Talbott
received competitive teaching grants to
develop on-campus and online versions of
the nation's first and only full
semester graduate-level course on the
research and regulation of dietary
supplements. He is a Fellow of both the
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
and the American Institute of Stress and
he maintains an active nutrition
counseling and lifestyle research
program near Salt Lake City.
Currently, Dr. Talbott oversees
educational efforts related to exercise,
nutrition, and dietary supplements in
his capacity as Research Director at
SupplementWatch, Inc. (a health
education company) and as Chief
Scientific Officer of TalMark Nutrition,
LLC (a product development company). As
a product developer, Dr. Talbott has
created and researched some of the
leading nutritional products on the
market.
